Kieffer Moore will surely look to leave Sheffield United if they get promoted.

Kieffer Moore will surely seek an exit from Bramall Lane in the summer if Sheffield United can secure promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds United’s recent struggles have left the door ajar for Burnley and the Blades in the race for the two automatic promotion spots and, if Chris Wilder’s side can force their way into the top two come the end of the season, it would surely spell the end for Moore’s time with the club.

The veteran striker has filled in admirably when called upon this season, but finds himself firmly below the impressive Tyrese Campbell in the pecking order.

The 25-year-old has certainly earned a shot at the Premier League with his performances this season and, when you consider the additions that would surely be required for United to compete in the top flight, Moore would likely find regular minutes hard to come by.

Moore will surely look to leave Bramall Lane in the summer

After notching seven goals from just 18 appearances during a loan spell at Ipswich Town last season, when Moore signed for the Blades in the summer, many were hoping that he would be able to have a similar impact on their push for promotion.

Unfortunately for the Welshman, that just hasn’t materialised. United’s signing of Campbell has proven to be an inspired one, and with Tom Cannon also arriving for £10m in January, Moore has found himself on the periphery of Wilder’s plans for the majority of the campaign.

The 32-year-old has made just 23 appearances all season, and while his return of five goals from those games is nothing to be frowned upon, he would certainly have hoped for more opportunities to play when he joined the club last summer.

With all three promoted teams looking likely to instantly be relegated back to the Championship once again this season, the sheer amount of strengthening that is required by second tier teams, just to be able to compete at Premier League level.

With that in mind, it would be a huge surprise if at least one or two extra attacking options didn’t walk through the door at Bramall Lane over the summer if Wilder’s men get promoted.

When you consider that Moore has already found gametime limited this term, whatever injuries have been a hurdle, if Wilder opts to bolster his attacking ranks even further in the summer, it would surely make sense for the veteran to start searching for a new club.

While playing at the highest possible level is undoubtedly important for every player, at this stage of his career Moore needs to play games on a regular basis, and he probably won’t get that opportunity if United become a top flight outfit again next term.

Moore can still be a threat at Championship level

The role that Moore played in Ipswich’s promotion last time out served as a reminder that he is still a very capable striker at Championship level.

The frontman is more of a traditional number nine than the majority of strikers in the modern game but, with his track record in the second tier, he would surely be of interest to plenty of clubs in the middle and lower reaches of the division.

While the Welsh international has never really been able to replicate the form he showed at Cardiff City, which saw him net 20 league goals for the only time in his career back in 2020/21, he has proven in the last two seasons that he can still be a threat.

When you combine his numbers from his spells with both Sheffield United and Ipswich, Moore has 12 goals in his last 30 Championship starts, a very respectable return.

While he may not be a prolific goalscorer anymore, his link-up play and ability to hold the ball up for his team makes him a very useful option for managers, especially in a division that features so many different styles of football from team to team.

Moore’s strength as a depth option can be highlighted by the fact that if United are to get promoted, he will have been part of a promotion-winning Championship team in each of the last two campaigns.

While his days at Bramall Lane could well be numbered if Wilder’s men get the outcome they desire from their season, Moore has proven once again that he still has what it takes to be a threat in the Championship.
