Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti downplayed the controversy surrounding Barcelona duo Dani Olmo and Pau Victor’s registration via a provisional ruling from the Spanish Sports Council (CSD).

The Blaugrana received the good news from the CSD on Thursday, with the ruling going in their favour, much to the chagrin of La Liga.

The verdict has stirred up some controversy, considering that La Liga president, Javier Tebas, had been against the Barcelona duo’s continued participation, and the league is appealing against the verdict.

Ancelotti’s stance on the Olmo case

When asked about the issue in his pre-match press conference before Real Madrid’s La Liga clash against Valencia, Ancelotti initially avoided giving a direct answer.

However, on the third attempt, when asked if the continued participation of Olmo ‘adulterates’ the competition, he responded in the negatory.

“I don’t think it affects the competition,” said Ancelotti, dismissing concerns that the CSD’s decision would distort La Liga.

Despite Real Madrid not officially commenting on the matter, Ancelotti made it clear that he sees no wrongdoing in the process.

“There is freedom of opinion. Clubs spoke after Madrid’s letter about referees, and now they are silent about Olmo, but it’s not a big deal,” he remarked, acknowledging the lack of reaction from other clubs regarding the CSD’s decision.

That said, Ancelotti was quick to shut down further discussion, saying: “This is not a question for me. I don’t want to comment on this issue.”

On Barcelona’s form and La Liga Race

Regarding Barcelona fans’ optimism ahead of the Copa del Rey final on April 26 against Real Madrid, Ancelotti showed respect for Hansi Flick’s team, stating:

“Barcelona’s fans can think whatever they want. They’re playing very well. In a final, every opponent deserves respect, and we respect them just as they respect us.”

Finally, he reaffirmed Madrid’s ambitions in LaLiga, emphasizing that the title race is still alive:

“We must be optimistic and believe we can win La Liga. We are fighting in all competitions, and based on our past experiences, we know we can achieve it.”
