The Anfield rumour mill rarely sleeps, and when Trent Alexander-Arnold is at the centre of it, heads turn across Merseyside and Madrid alike. In the latest Daily Red podcast for Anfield Index, Dave Davis unpacks a fresh round of speculation surrounding the future of Liverpool’s No. 66. With Real Madrid frequently linked and fans on edge, the question now is: is Trent staying at Liverpool after all?
It’s not every day that a stadium tour guide sets the fanbase ablaze. Yet, that’s exactly what happened when a father taking his daughters around Anfield overheard a casual mention from a tour guide. As Dave recounted:
“One of the guys talked about the great news and he thought he meant Virgil’s contract… then said no, Trent. So I said ‘Oh, he’s going for sure then.’ And looked to me and implied he’d heard he was staying after all.”
The ripple effects were immediate. Social media pounced, forums lit up, and speculation surged like a spring tide.
“People seem to be basing into it genuinely, honest—absolutely nothing on it,” Dave cautioned, striking a sceptical but hopeful tone.
The origin of the rumour lies with an account dubbed “Tier Anfield Tour Guide”, now elevated to folk-hero status or dismissed as master troll, depending on your outlook.
“This guy has now either pegged himself level with Indykaila or it’s the greatest blag account ever,” Dave quipped. “There’s no in-between.”
While Dave Davis confessed he hadn’t “heard anything on it at all,” he didn’t dismiss the emotional pull of the notion:
“I would love it to be true… of course we want Trent to renew. Of course we do.”
Adding fuel to the fire, Kostas Tsimikas recently posted a photo featuring Trent with a love heart emoji, celebrating his return to training. Simultaneously, fans clocked Trent’s sudden reappearance on Instagram after a long absence.
Dave’s take?
“People jumped on that one as well, didn’t they?”
The implication: fans are desperate for clues, and even the smallest social media nudge is read like a sacred text. Still, caution ruled the day:
“I wouldn’t get too excited on this… I hope I’m wildly wrong as I say that.”
So where does Arne Slot, Liverpool’s current manager, stand? For now, the official line is that Trent will be on the bench against Leicester, according to Slot’s Friday press conference. Not quite a decisive U-turn, but hardly a farewell lap either.
“We’ll have to wait there,” Dave said, “but is it a Trent U-turn?”
In his own words, the podcast host summed it up best:
“Who knows… we probably won’t have to wait too long to find out in that regard.”
Speculation about Trent Alexander-Arnold joining Real Madrid has always carried a sting. A Scouser born and bred, a player who’s lifted the Champions League in red, and one of the club’s modern icons—it’s little wonder the mere hint of his departure unsettles supporters.
But if whispers from a tour guide, emojis from teammates, and Insta-activity are anything to go by, there’s at least a flicker of hope that Trent stays at Liverpool.
Whether this is a full-blown Trent U-turn or just the latest episode in a saga of speculation remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure: Liverpool fans will be watching this one as closely as they watch the title race.
