Bournemouth appeal suspension so striker can face Arsenal | OneFootball

Bournemouth have appealed against the red card shown to Evanilson during their match against Manchester United, which will affect his availability against Arsenal.

Arsenal have a Champions League semi-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain coming up over the next week, but sandwiched between the home and away legs is a Premier League fixture against Bournemouth.

Though the title has gone to Liverpool, Arsenal still have a top-five spot to play for, with only a seven-point lead on sixth with four games remaining.

So it was a boost to Arsenal’s hopes of a weekend win over Bournemouth when Evanilson received a straight red card against Manchester United at the weekend. As it stands, he’ll be suspended for three matches, starting with Saturday’s Arsenal game.

Yet Evanilson may still turn out to be available. Sky Sports News report that Bournemouth have lodged an official appeal against the sending off, believing the accidental nature of his challenge mitigated the severity of it.

Evanilson had gone in for a tackle on Noussair Mazraoui, but his studs slipped in the turf and he ended up flying into a scissor challenge and failing to get his foot on the ball.

Sky report that the success of Bournemouth’s appeal will be known later this week, potentially making Evanilson available to face Arsenal if the dismissal is overturned.

Bournemouth signed Evanilson last summer, and he’s gone on to score 11 goals in 30 games for the team. That makes him joint-second in the club’s goal rankings this season, despite spending some time sidelined with a broken foot.

Evanilson also won a penalty against Arsenal in October, so his involvement could be impactful on Saturday.
