The Blues go into this weekend’s fixture against West Ham United eight points clear of nearest challengers Arsenal and Manchester United with just five games left to play.
Chelsea advanced to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals as they defeated Manchester City 3-2 on aggregate in midweek and head coach Bompastor says that the focus is now on wrapping-up the league title as soon as possible.
“My players are really competitive players, I think they want to win every single game,” Bompastor said when speaking in a Chelsea press conference. “I think the game on Sunday will be no different for that reason. As a manager, I’m on the same page, I’m really competitive. I think we have enough experience in the squad, but also in the staff to make sure we just focus on the league for the game on Sunday.
“Our goal in the league now is to make sure we win the title as quick as possible. I’ll put my best team out on Sunday to make sure we achieve that goal and every game will be equally as important because in the league, every game will count for three points.”
Going on to discuss squad availability, Bompastor said that she expects no major changes ahead of the West Ham United game and she is hoping to have a healthy group after the international break.
She said “Nobody will come back for the game on Sunday, so maybe we’ll see some players coming back after the international break. I think it’s important for us to have all of the players available because again, we’ll go for a busy block.
“We will be playing every three days again and I think if you have the opportunity to rotate the squad, it’s a lot better. We’ll need to still focus on the Champions League, the FA Cup semi-final and the league, so three competitions and I think that’s plenty of games again where the bodies start to get really fatigued. I think it will be important to have a lot of players available.”
