Common Leicester theme only further frustrates City fan base

For a moment, Leicester appeared to be playing a little better. Yes, relegation was assured, but the draw against Brighton and one-goal loss to the Premier League champions appeared to be at least something of an improvement. Instead, anything that could have been seen as a positive progression as of late was completely thrown out the window against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Once again, City supporters saw an inspiring performance from a side that truly looked like it belonged in the Championship. Even with the potential push of wanting to play well in Jamie Vardy's final matches at LCFC, the result was far from a worthy effort to give the captain a proper end to his playing days with the Foxes.

The fact that after each match, the discussion is surrounded around players who aren't giving the needed effort. Sacrificing for the badge is far from the conversation. Instead, the lack of care somehow finds a way to hit a new level of low.

Particularly after hearing about the departure of a club legend, there should have been a renewed push from Ruud van Nistelrooy's side. Instead, there was another embarrassing game from the Foxes. For a team that had been playing better and had a strong reason to get up for the Wolves fixture, to call it flat would be overly generous.

Same insight from Leicester boss

RvN spoke on what he observed during the match. The Dutchman spoke on the lack of drive from his players. It's odd that this point has to continually be revisited. Once again, the City boss expanded on the current form from his side:

"It’s mindset and willingness to do things with the highest intensity and the highest motivation to be playing well and winning duels. That was disappointing, and I didn’t expect that."

While accurate, it's van Nistelrooy who sets the tone. He needs to be the one to set the tone and provide leadership in the dressing room. Yes, those on the pitch should have every reason not to be embarrassed. It is RvN's job, however, to ultimately be responsible for the final product.

It's unknown what the former Netherlands international is saying or doing behind the scenes. Whatever it is, his current approach isn't hitting home for those under his care.
