Julen Lopetegui is understood to be closing in on a return to management in Mexico.
The news follows rumours that Manchester United had shortlisted the Spaniard to possibly take over from Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford, should the Red Devils decide to part ways with Amorim following an awful start to life in the Premier League.
West Ham fans were no doubt questioning whether the link to Manchester United was a joke, with Lopetegui proving to be a disastrous appointment in east London, with the former Wolves boss going down as one of the worst bosses in the clubs history.
It’s now believed that the managerial flop could be set to take the reigns at Mexican club Monterrey – in what would be a fast return to the dugout, considering his record of late in the game.
This also surely means that the news of a probable move to Manchester is way off the mark – as many suspected. With Lopetegui surely now in damage-control mode with his reputation once again in tatters.
