Barclays Manager of the Month shortlist
Unai Emery (Aston Villa) P5 W4 D0 L1 GD+9 Emery’s Aston Villa enjoyed an impressive month, with their only defeat being a 2-1 stoppage-time loss at Manchester City. They recorded impressive home wins over Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United in the race for Europe, as well as successive away clean sheets in 3-0 victories over Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton.
Pep Guardiola (Man City) P5 W4 D1 L0 GD+8 Man City had an unbeaten April that included a big-scoring win over Crystal Palace and a victory against fellow European chasers Aston Villa. They kept three clean sheets in April, with two of those coming away from home, in a 0-0 draw at Manchester United and a 2-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park. Guardiola’s side would end the month with a dramatic stoppage-time win over Villa that leaves them fourth in the table and on course for UEFA Champions League qualification.
Eddie Howe (Newcastle) P6 W5 D0 L1 GD+12
Howe’s Newcastle were the division’s highest scorers across the month, with 18 goals from six matches that included wins over Brentford, Leicester City, Man Utd, Crystal Palace and Ipswich. Those results helped take them up to third in the table.
Vitor Pereira (Wolves) P5 W5 D0 L0 GD+8 Pereira oversaw an exceptional month for Wolverhampton Wanderers as they picked up 15 points from a possible 15 to guarantee their Premier League safety. They began and ended April with clean sheets, beating West Ham United 1-0 and Leicester City 3-0 respectively. In between they beat Ipswich Town, Tottenham Hotspur and Man Utd, with Wolves being the only team to go through April with a 100 per cent winning record.
Arne Slot (Liverpool) P5 W4 D0 L1 GD+6 It was a memorable month for Slot and Liverpool after the Dutchman led them to the Premier League title in his debut season. An emphatic 5-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in their final match of April sealed a second Premier League title for Liverpool and a record-equalling 20th title in the top flight. The month began with a Merseyside derby win against Everton and despite a 3-2 loss at Fulham, Liverpool recovered to win their next three fixtures en route to confirming their status as champions.
