Former Chelsea and England defender John Terry has advised Jack Grealish to weigh his Manchester City future ahead of the summer transfer window.

Grealish has struggled for form and minutes this season and as the 29-year-old approaches the end of his fourth season in Manchester, he is yet to nail down a starting place in Pep Guardiola’s team.

The likes of Savinho, Jeremy Doku and January signing Omar Marmoush are ahead of the £100 million signing in the pecking order, with doubts rising over whether Grealish has a long-term future at the Etihad Stadium.

With the Manchester City squad away on international week since last week, many of Guardiola’s players have been in action for their respective nations but not Grealish, who was excluded from Thomas Tuchel’s first squad as Three Lions boss.

Grealish’s lack of minutes at Manchester City in the last two seasons have derailed his England career and the former Aston Villa captain will be keen to bolster his chances of securing a seat on the plane to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, there have been reports indicating an expectation for Grealish to leave Manchester City at the end of the season to save his World Cup chances.

The Birmingham-born forward enjoyed a stellar season when Manchester City won a historic treble and their maiden UEFA Champions League title in 2023, scoring five goals and providing 11 assists in 50 games in all competitions this term.

Speaking on talkSPORT last week, former Chelsea and England defender John Terry discussed Grealish’s future at Manchester City and what could serve the forward well in the future ahead of a crossroads transfer window.

“I think it will be good for him to weigh up his options. I’m not saying leave Man City, because they’re one of the top teams in the world, but he needs to ask, ‘Am I going to be part of this in the future?’,” said Terry, who has previously worked with Grealish in a coaching role at Aston Villa.

“Jack (Grealish) is an unbelievable talent and I think he’s at his best when he’s got freedom. He needs a manager to give him the license to be Jack Grealish. He’s not the type to sit on the bench. He’s at his best when he’s playing week in, week out, driving the team forward. I’d be a little bit worried and go, ‘I need to get out,’ because England means the world to him.”
