Inter Milan had quite a scare against Udinese this evening.

The Nerazzurri seemed like they were close to wrapping up a victory in their first match back from the international break at halftime.

The Nerazzurri went in 2-0 up at the interval. And the lead was more than deserved after a first half in which they had created numerous good chances, and conceded almost nothing.

But in the second half, Inter perhaps paid for complacency and a failure to push for a third.

As they had done in the reverse fixture, Udinese found a way back into the match late on.

It was defender Oumar Solet who popped up with an improbable goal. The Frenchman scored a stunning solo goal.

And that goal set up a very tense and nervy finale to the match for Inter.

Even before Solet’s goal, there was a sense that Inter Milan didn’t have nearly the control of the match that they had done in the first half.

Udinese coach Kosta Runjaic’s substitutions were working to impact the match. Simone Inaghi’s by contrast, took the air out of his team.

And after Solet’s goal, the dynamic of the match changed completely.

It was Udinese who were on the front foot for nearly all of the closing stages.

There were a few good chances for the Friulani to find an equalizer. But they did not score from any of them.

A big part of the reason why was Inter keeper Yann Sommer. The Swiss popped up with a couple truly outstanding saves.

After the match, Sommer commented that “it was important for us to win.”

“We’re happy with the first half,” he continued. “We totally controlled the match.”

“Then in the second half we were missing something,” he admitted.

“But we’re still happy that we brought home the win.”

Of his two big saves late in the second half, Sommer said that “It was important to close off the bottom corner to Solet, because he had no other options where he could shoot.”

“I’m happy to have contributed to the win with the saves,” he added.
