Arsenal could be dealt with an injury blow before the restart of the season, as Riccardo Calafiori seems to have picked up a knee problem.
The defender had started for Italy against Germany yesterday and played the entire game, as the Azzurri picked up a 2-1 loss. Sandro Tonali had scored early but goals from Leon Goretzka and Tim Kleindienst made sure that Die Mansschaft went home with a crucial lead in the quarter-finals of the Nations League.
After the game, Spalletti was asked about Calafiori’s situation and he spoke about a knee problem that the Arsenal player encountered during the game.
He said, via TMW: “We don’t know about Calafiori, his knee feels strange but he can’t answer the question of what he feels.”
Spalletti added uncertainty to the situation and revealed that he has no idea about the extent of the injury.
He said: “I can’t quite figure it out at the moment, unfortunately his stud came off while he was trying to get back on the pass.”
Calafiori has a history of knee injuries since his younger days and he has had fitness problems even this season for Mikel Arteta’s side. He has played 26 times in all competitions for Arsenal, scoring three goals despite coming across knee and calf injuries.
