Xabi Alonso is the talk of the town in Madrid and the Bayer Leverkusen manager has never been closer to securing the job as the coach of Real Madrid.
It has been long known that both the club and Alonso intend to work with each other at some point, but Carlo Ancelotti’s rock-solid management and the titles he brought home kept it from materialising last summer.
This season, however, the Merengues have been significantly underwhelming and their elimination from the UEFA Champions League has Ancelotti on the ropes.
He is, in fact, living his final days as the Real Madrid manager and links with Alonso are only getting hotter.

Given that Alonso has an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen until 2026, there were doubts over his availability this summer and whether or not the German club would allow his departure.
As relayed by AS in a recent update, however, the feeling within the German camp is that Alonso is very close to joining Real Madrid and there is a sense of acceptance of his departure.
There has indeed been no official call from Real Madrid yet, but Bayer are convinced that it is just around the corner and that there is nothing they can do to keep Alonso from accepting it once it arrives.
Earlier this week, the CEO of the Bundesliga side officially confirmed that there was a clause on Alonso’s contract by which they will negotiate with any club he represented as a player. Real Madrid, thus, can sign him if they show their interest in his recruitment.
“The decision has to be in the next three or four weeks, we can’t wait until the end of the season. Before the season ends we will know,” he added on the topic and it remains to be seen if there is indeed any clarity on the topic by that point.
