Liverpool are looking to sign a new left-back in the summer transfer window, and they are going hell for leather to sign AFC Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez.

The Reds are looking to sign a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, although the Scotland skipper is determined to stay at the club and fight for his place.

Irrespective of whether the 31-year-old stays or leave, Liverpool are planning for the future ahead, and they have earmarked Kerkez as the ideal candidate for the role.

According to a report from iNews, the Reds are closing in on the Bournemouth defender who has been simply outstanding this season.

A host of clubs, including Manchester City and Arsenal are also vying for his signature, but Liverpool are trying to get on the front and secure an agreement.

The report claims that the Reds have made contact with Kerkez’s representatives to sign the 21-year-old Hungarian full-back.

Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, has great contacts at Bournemouth and is pushing for the deal. The Reds have made initial contact with the Cherries, who are refusing to sell Kerkez for anything less than £40 million.

Huge summer activity expected from Liverpool

Kerkez has been superb this season for Bournemouth. He has made 29 Premier League appearances, scoring two goals and providing five assists.

Liverpool are also looking to sign a central defender this summer, and they have earmarked Kerkez’s club teammate, Dean Huijsen, as a potential option.

Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and Paris Saint-Germain full-back Nuno Mendes are also on the list of targets for Liverpool for the left-back role.

However, Kerkez has emerged as their first-choice target. Ajax’s Jorrel Hato is another player who Arne Slot is considering for the left-back role.

Kerkez personally favours a move to Anfield, and Hughes must do everything to beat other rivals to secure his signature.
