Pep Guardiola without a number of key stars for final Goodison Park trip
Manchester City do not have Ederson available for today’s trip to Everton in the Premier League, though Phil Foden and Manuel Akanji are both back in the matchday squad.
The soon-to-be-deposed champions head to Goodison Park on Saturday looking for successive wins in the race for a top-five finish and Champions League qualification for next season after following up a drab Manchester derby stalemate at Old Trafford by bouncing back from an early two-goal deficit to hit five at home to Crystal Palace.
However, they are without first-choice goalkeeper Ederson, who limped off 20 minutes from time against Palace with a recurring groin injury.
It was reported that the Brazilian could be facing weeks out of action and he will definitely not be involved on Merseyside this afternoon as No2 Stefan Ortega deputises once more.
“[He’s] not ready for tomorrow,” Guardiola said on Ederson at his pre-Everton press conference on Friday. “I don’t know [when he will be available]. For the game he is not ready.”
Matheus Nunes replaces Rico Lewis at right-back, while Mateo Kovacic and James McAtee make way for Bernardo Silva and Savinho as Guardiola makes four changes to face Everton.
City have both Foden and Akanji on the bench. England attacker Foden missed the Palace game with a knock suffered against United, while Swiss centre-back Akanji has not played since the first leg of the Champions League play-off tie against Real Madrid in February having undergone surgery on a torn abductor muscle. Both players returned to training this week.

“Phil came back Thursday and [will be in] today’s training session since the action at Old Trafford,” Guardiola said on Friday.
“Manu, yes, [he’s had] two or three training sessions with us. I see him moving really well.”
Guardiola said Akanji’s fellow defenders John Stones and Nathan Ake were both “getting better” but not yet ready to be considered for selection as they recover from respective thigh and foot issues that have kept both out for several weeks.
Superstar striker Haaland is also not close to a return yet from the ankle injury sustained in the FA Cup quarter-final win over Bournemouth last month that was expected to keep him sidelined for up to seven weeks.
“[He’s] not training either,” Guardiola said of his top scorer. “The next games he won’t be ready.”
City’s only other absentee at present is Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, who is working his way back from the anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in September as he targets a potential return at this summer’s Club World Cup, having resumed individual training several weeks ago.
