Manchester United are closing in on a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, according to the Daily Mail.

The Brazilian is edging towards an agreement on personal terms ahead of a potential summer switch to Old Trafford.

United still need to trigger his £62.5 million release clause, but discussions are progressing well, and club insiders hope to seal a deal by next month.

The timing is crucial, with United still operating within their remaining room under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Man Utd are determined to stave off competition from Newcastle United for Cunha. The player is reportedly enticed by the prospect of playing a central role in the Ruben Amorim rebuild at Old Trafford.

Amorim has long admired his versatility and attacking output. The Portuguese tactician spoke with the forward during and after recent matches between United and Wolves.

Man Utd have also held talks over potential moves for Victor Osimhen, Xavi Simons, Benjamin Sesko, Eberechi Eze and Antoine Semenyo. They are also monitoring Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

Cunha’s move could spell the end for Garnacho

A move for Cunha is potentially exciting for the Red Devils but spells doom for academy graduate Alejandro Garnacho.

Despite recording ten goals and nine assists this season, the 20-year-old has been criticised for poor decision-making and finishing.

Garnacho still has massive room for improvement and could play understudy to Cunha, but he will likely want to be the first choice.

Napoli and Chelsea showed interest in January and will likely be at the front of the queue this summer if he decides to leave.
