Villarreal attacking midfielder Alex Baena is a wanted man this summer, with several European giants pursuing his signature.

According to journalist Eduardo Burgos, Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Baena before the 2025 Club World Cup. Manchester United and Bayern Munich are also interested.

Atletico need his playmaking ability to unlock stubborn defences. His creativity is just what Diego Simeone’s side needs to take the next step towards their 12th La Liga title.

Baena will likely be an option for Bayern if they miss out on Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz.

He could also be a long-term replacement for Bruno Fernandes at Man United. He turns 31 this year, and the Red Devils should have a successor ready to take over.

Manchester City could be another option. With Kevin De Bruyne set to leave this summer, Pep Guardiola needs a successor, and the Spain international ticks all the right boxes.

He sees and executes passes others cannot and has a venomous shot in his armoury. His intelligence in tight spaces and eye for the final ball would make him a natural fit in the City system.

Guardiola has a proven track record of unlocking the full potential of technically gifted midfielders, and Baena could be his next great project.
