Manchester City host Aston Villa in a Premier League game of huge consequence this evening.
Both teams are battling for a place in the Champions League next season with just a point between them in the table. City are unbeaten in six games across all competitions and are holding on to the fifth and final Champions League place as things stand. A win this evening would lift Pep Guardiola’s side into third, albeit having played a game more than Nottingham Forest and Newcastle.
Villa arrive at the Etihad in red-hot form. Unai Emery’s side have won 10 of their last 11 in all competitions and thrashed top-five rivals Newcastle 4-1 at the weekend.
Pep Guardiola welcomed Phil Foden and Manuel Akanji back into his squad at Everton, following spells on the sidelines. The former has failed to reach the heights of last season as City have struggled as a collective this season but boasts a good record in this fixture. Foden has scored five times in 10 previous league appearances against Villa.
City remain without Erling Haaland and Rodri, with neither likely to feature before the end of the Premier League campaign. John Stones is another still sidelined, alongside Nathan Ake and first-choice goalkeeper Ederson, who has a groin issue.
Manchester City predicted XI: Ortega; Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly; Gonzalez, Kovacic, De Bruyne; Doku, Savinho, Marmoush.
Manchester City host Aston Villa in the Premier League on on Tuesday 22nd April 2025. Kick-off at the Etihad Stadium will be at 20:00 BST.
Manchester City vs Aston Villa will be shown on Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Go UK and NOW UK.
