Paul Merson speaking about Newcastle United yet again.
The former Arsenal player getting ever more desperate.
As Eddie Howe’s team are preparing for their next match.
Newcastle United preparing for a return to Premier League action.
With a trophy already in the bag and European football already guaranteed next season, now Newcastle United determined to upgrade that European participation to Champions League.
Paul Merson talking about Newcastle United ahead of their home match against Brentford, also returning to his favourite subject/obsession…
Paul Merson talking to Sportskeeda ahead of Newcastle v Brentford:
“For Newcastle, this game comes after an incredible achievement.
“They must switch back on quickly though.
“It was amazing to win the cup, but they need to get in the top four and return to the Champions League next season!
“This isn’t the time to relax and Brentford are not easy opponents.
“At first, Brentford were incredible at home and now they are outstanding on the road.
“So this is far from an easy game for Newcastle.
“I can’t see Newcastle keeping hold of Alexander Isak next season if I’m being honest.
“I know it sound unfair but still.
“I think Arsenal need to sign Isak. If they can get him, Arsenal win the league by 10 points next season!
“I’m not kidding. I can actually see Arsenal winning the league comfortably if they sign Isak.
“I expect Liverpool to lose some key players this summer and that will severely weaken them.
“This is the chance for Arsenal to bring in a quality player like Isak and end that Premier League title drought.
“Big game coming up for Newcastle and I expect them to win here.
“Prediction: Newcastle United 2 Brentford 0”
I actually agree with the vast majority of that from Paul Merson.
I think that Brentford will be tough opponents on Wednesday night but that Newcastle United will still win.
I also agree that Liverpool will find it a lot more difficult next season in the Premier League, so much has gone in their favour this season.
Then I also agree that Alexander Isak would very much improve Arsenal’s team.
The only small problem for Paul Merson, is that he doesn’t explain exactly why Arsenal can think they have any chance of signing Alexander Isak.
Why leave a trophy winning club for one that hasn’t won any silverware for years?
Why leave a team and club on the up, for one that has gone backwards on the pitch compared to last season?
Why would Newcastle United sell their best player and even if they did, why would he choose Arsenal??? Not that they could afford him anyway, if for some bizarre reason United were willing to sell.
If Newcastle United follow up winning the cup with a top five finish in the league and Champions League qualification, Eddie Howe and the NUFC owners will have their own aspirations for next season and beyond. Aspirations that could be very realistic if signing some more quality first team contenders AND keeping their very best players, especially Alexander Isak.
