AC Milan legend Alessandro Nesta admits he considered joining Inter before swapping Lazio for the San Siro back in the day.
During an interview with Amazon Prime Video via FCInterNews, the former defender made a shocking revelation.
Widely considered among the best defenders of all time, Alessandro Nesta etched his name in Milan’s history books.
Indeed, the Rossoneri took advantage of Lazio’s financial struggles to sign the ex-center-back for €30 million in 2002.
That was a mind-blowing figure at the time, perhaps best illustrating his household status in Italian football.
However, Nesta’s transfer was worth every penny.
Nesta won ten major domestic and international titles during his trophy-laden ten-year stay at Milan.
Furthermore, he was part of Milan’s team to win the only Champions League titles in the 21st century.
He cut ties with the Serie A giants in 2012 to join Major League Soccer franchise CF Montreal.

Little did anyone know Nesta had considered a transfer to Inter before penning a contract at Milan.
“I knew that it was my last year with Lazio,” Nesta stated. “For eight months, we hadn’t received our salaries.
“We were falling apart, and the club had huge financial debts.
“I came from the youth system, and if they had sold me, it would have been a capital gain.
“It was a tough year: at first, I was thinking about Inter, they had spoken with the club to send me there.
“The year before, I had turned down Real Madrid.”
Then, Nesta admitted he left Lazio on bad terms.
“Unfortunately, I left in a bad way, which really upset me,” he confessed.
“I probably would have stayed at Lazio for my whole life, but unfortunately, there was a collapse.
“I never imagined life away from Lazio. Leaving Lazio was a trauma, the first few months were very hard.
“I never wanted to leave, and the people were very attached to me.”
