Borussia Dortmund were forced to split the points with Werder Bremen after a 0-0 draw on Saturday.
Red: Schlotterbeck 73′
It was a night to forget for Nuri Şahin and his squad, as this clash at the Weserstadion was a 90-minute tussle featuring poor finishing and rash challenges.
Nothing could separate the sides throughout the first 45 minutes as both teams toyed with the ball on the pitch. Impressively, neither side had registered a shot by the half-hour mark.
But as time ticked away, tempers started to flare. Werder Bremen put the pressure on through Justin Njinmah and Mitchell Weiser while Dortmund’s entire backline picked up yellow cards.
Karim Adeyemi was introduced in the second half and had the best opportunity to break the deadlock, but his long-range strike proved easy enough for goalkeeper Michael Zetterer.
The door opened slightly for the hosts to pull off a shock win when the visitors went down to 10 men after Nico Schlotterbeck brought down Njinmah.
However, despite the man advantage for the final 15 minutes, Werder Bremen could not punish Dortmund, seeing the teams split the points. Both teams are unbeaten in the Bundesliga after two games.
