Here are 5 players who will be keen to make an impact on the result of Chelsea vs Southampton. The two sides meet at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League tonight.
Tonight, Southampton travel to Stamford Bridge for Premier League action. It goes without saying that Saints fans aren't looking forward to this one. But then again, what has the South Coast side given us to be excited about?
Some might argue that pessimism isn't the worst thing in the world. After all, minimal expectations can lead to heightened emotions when things go right. Maybe, just maybe, tonight could be one of those nights.
There are great players on both teams. With that being said, here are five players who could impact the Chelsea vs Southampton match tonight.
Aaron Ramsdale has played against Chelsea many times before and the Blues obviously like him. Given the transfer links to Chelsea, Ramsdale will have a double-incentive to perform well here. Hey, if it benefits Southampton, who are we to complain?
Ramsdale has kept just two clean sheets this season, but it doesn't reflect him as a goalkeeper. It's more a reflection of the players in front of him. While Rambo is never tipped to keep a clean sheet in the Southampton colours, it'd be nice to see him do so on his return to the capital.
Look, Cole Palmer is one of those players who could take a bull by the horns. He doesn't need many chances to make things happen, so Southampton might need to be wary of this. Especially considering the Saints present many chances, eye-roll.
Palmer has scored 14 goals and provided six assists, the most goal involvements of any Chelsea player in the Premier League this season. Therefore, if the Saints are to pick one player to isolate, it must be Palmer.
Caicedo, despite being the face of humiliation in his debut season for Chelsea, has turned things around this season. The Ecuador international has been superb, acting as the rock in midfield and being a difficult force to break down.
Given his past on the South Coast with Brighton, Caicedo will be eager to make his former club proud with a win against the Saints. Let's not give Brighton any more reason to celebrate, please.
The last game was a struggle for the otherwise in-form Sulemana. In fairness, he wasn't given many chances, and it wasn't the type of game where he could pick up the ball and run with it.
Let's hope that today's match is kinder to the Southampton front three. If Sulemana is given more chances at goal, you'd have to favour him to put the ball away. He's been one of the bright sparks under Ivan Juric, after all.
Everybody in England knows how Marc Cucurella can impact a game for all the wrong reasons, it seems. A master of the dark arts, he will be front and centre of many refereeing decisions. That's never an exciting prospect for Southampton, or any team for that matter.
