The players that are likely to leave Leicester City this summer

Leicester City are officially set to return to the Championship next season after their 1-0 loss to Liverpool.

The Reds’ second-half strike courtesy of Trent Alexander Arnold condemned Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side to a place in the bottom three.

The Foxes struggled to compete in the top flight after their promotion last season, and will ultimately only spend one year back in the division.

Planning will now be underway for potential summer business, with Leicester likely targeting promotion straight back at the first attempt.

But here we look at the players that might depart the King Power Stadium in the upcoming transfer window.

Bilal El Khannouss

Bilal El Khannouss was one of Leicester’s major signings last summer, arriving from Genk in a deal worth £21 million, per the BBC.

The playmaker has been a key figure in Van Nistelrooy’s side, contributing two goals and two assists from 28 appearances in the Premier League.

However, it’s been reported by Sacha Tovolieri that the player has a release clause in his contract that could allow him to leave for a set price.

Spanish outlet Fichajes also claimed that the 20-year-old is on Arsenal’s radar, so this is a deal that could come to fruition this summer.

Mads Hermansen

Mads Hermansen has been a crucial part of the Leicester squad since joining the club in the summer of 2023, immediately cementing himself as the new first-choice goalkeeper.

The Dane featured 44 times as the club gained promotion from the Championship last season, and has remained a key member of the team in the Premier League.

However, relegation could lead to his exit this summer as he is likely to attract suitors after solid performances in the top flight.

If the Foxes need to cash in on players to help their financial situation, then Hermansen could also be one of the first in line to be sold given his potential value in the market.

Harry Winks

Harry Winks joined Leicester when they were relegated from the Championship in 2023, arriving from Tottenham Hotspur.

He's been a key figure in the side in the seasons since, but may not want to go back down to the Championship after relegation has been suffered once again.

The midfielder is proven at a Premier League level, so could seek an exit from the King Power.

Given his contract expires in 2026, the Foxes may also want to cash in on the player in order to avoid losing him for nothing in 12 months.

Wilfred Ndidi

Wilfred Ndidi is another key midfielder that may not be pleased at the prospect of going back down to the Championship next year.

The Nigeria international has been a crucial part of the squad since arriving in 2016 from Genk, and was an important part of their promotion to the Premier League in 2024.

However, with a contract that runs until the summer of 2027, any deal will require a big offer coming in from elsewhere to convince the Foxes to sell.

Danny Ward

Danny Ward has been with Leicester since 2018, arriving after his exit from Liverpool.

In the years since he has been a useful and solid member of the squad, usually taking on the role of second-choice goalkeeper but sometimes stepping into the team.

He’s made two appearances in the league so far this season, but has mostly been second fiddle to Mads Hermansen.

Ward’s contract is now coming into its final weeks, and it is increasingly likely it won’t be renewed with no agreement yet agreed, meaning he will leave the club in June.

Daniel Iversen

Daniel Iversen is another goalkeeper option at Leicester, and is even further down the pecking order than Ward.

The Dane has not featured for the Foxes at all this season in any competition, and is unlikely to feature before the campaign comes to an end.

The 27-year-old is also coming to the end of his current contract, and it’s difficult to imagine him remaining given this lack of game time.

Iversen has been with Leicester since 2016, coming through the club’s academy system, and has spent time on loan with several EFL sides, as well as OH Leuven, so a drop down into the Championship could be on the cards.
