Match preview ahead of home game against Eintracht Frankfurt

SV Werder Bremen prepare to host Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday night in a sold-out Weserstadion (5th April, 18:30 CEST). Ahead of what will be their final primetime match this season, head coach Ole Werner spoke about the good work the team had done during training and how they want to build on the "solid performance" against Frankfurt earlier this season in order to earn a positive result.

Team news: Milos Veljkovic did not take part in the team's final training session due to a muscular issue, while Anthony Jung was able to return to the pitch. Abed Nankishi is available again after recovering from illness.

Ole Werner on Eintracht Frankfurt: "We're all aware that Frankfurt are a team with a lot of individual quality and that they're in a very different area of the table compared to Kiel. I don't have to prepare anyone for that fact. Frankfurt are variable in possession, which makes it tricky to defend against them. They have consistently picked up points recently and have played well, so it will be a tough challenge for us."

Recent meetings: Werder's recent record against the Eagles could stand some improvement. The Green-Whites last managed to beat Eintracht four years ago (2-1 at home in 2020/21). They have failed to win any of their five games against the Eagles since then (D2, L3). Last season's meeting in Bremen ended in a 2-2 draw. However, the overall head-to-head record between the sides is balanced, with both SGE and SVW winning on 45 occasions and a further 26 matches ending in a draw (116 meetings in total).

Fourth and final match on a Saturday night this season: Werder have played three times on a Saturday night so far this season, with all three games ending in very different results. The Green-Whites won 2-0 away at St. Pauli and also came back to earn a 2-2 draw against defending champions Bayer Leverkusen. They then lost 1-0 away in Frankfurt earlier this season – a result they will hope to avoid repeating this weekend.
