Liverpool head coach Arne Slot can’t wait for the Reds to go head-to-head with PSG on Wednesday for the Champions League RO16 first leg to be held at Paris’ Parc des Princes. The Dutchman has revealed he would have preferred Liverpool to draw Benfica instead of the Ligue 1 leaders. However, he has called on the Reds to rise to the challenge Les Parisiens will offer. “If you are Liverpool, you want to play the big games”. Slot adds. “We have to accept what the draw is. Both teams are facing a strong opponent.”
Slot has lauded his opposite number in PSG’s dugout – Luis Enrique – for the way he has improved the Ligue 1 leaders since his appointment in 2023. The Liverpool head coach even feels this current PSG team is stronger than the one who reached the Champions League semi-finals last year. “Luis Enrique has done a lot of great things at Paris, one of which is improving individual performances. Both sides have attackers in great form.”
Arne Slot is adamant Wednesday’s game between PSG and Liverpool will bring plenty of entertainment, given the form of their respective strikers such as Mohamed Salah and Ousmane Dembélé. “Paris are one of the strongest teams in Europe, as you can see by how they’ve been playing in the last few months. It’s a great fixture to look forward to for anyone who loves football. We’ve both scored lots of goals this season and play in a similar way, so it should be interesting.”
