A-League round up: Perth and Melbourne Victory tie in top of the table clash | OneFootball

Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory fought out a thrilling 2-2 draw at the weekend in the latest round of A-League fixtures. The two sides locked horns for a top-of-the-table clash and both remain level on 13 points, with four wins and a draw each.

Elsewhere, Melbourne City edged out Newcastle Jets after a five-goal fiesta, while Western United earned a hard-fought win over Brisbane Roar. We’ve rounded up all the latest A-League action below.

Central Coast Mariners 1-0 Wellington

A late Annalise Rasmussen goal gave Central Coast a narrow win over Wellington on Saturday. The Nix nearly took the lead at the end of an evenly contested first half. Emma Main’s fierce drive from an acute angle was spectacularly tipped over the bar by Mariners keeper Courtney Newbon.

Wurigumula had a great chance to put the hosts ahead with 20 minutes left as she cut back onto her left foot, but her effort flew over the bar. The Mariners took all three points with a great counter-attacking goal. Wurigumula squared the ball for the advancing Rasmussen who coolly finished to send the Yellows fourth in the League.

Perth Glory 2-2 Melbourne Victory

Two braces saw Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory play out a nailbiting 2-2 draw. Hanna Lowry bagged the game’s opening goal in the 24th minute to put the hosts ahead going in at the break. An action-packed final 20 minutes produced three goals after a nervy second half.

Rachel Lowe netted two in less than five minutes to put the visitors ahead going into injury time. A late equaliser from Lowry, however, saw both teams take a single point from the clash. Perth finished the weekend top of the table whilst Victory occupy fourth spot.

Brisbane Roar 0-1 Western United

A single goal was enough to guarantee Western United all three points from their clash with Brisbane Roar. Kahli Johnson’s tenth-minute effort saw the forward tip the ball in following a well-worked corner routine.

The win moves Western into seventh, separated from the top four only by goal difference. Brisbane finished the weekend sitting sixth in the league, having taken seven points from their opening run of games.

Adelaide United 1-3 Sydney FC

Fiona Worts came back to haunt her old side as her brace helped Sydney FC to a win over Adelaide United. The Sky Blues took the lead after 20 minutes thanks to Tori Tumeth’s piercing run forward into the Adelaide box. She cut the ball back to the waiting Worts on the penalty spot, who had the simple task of slotting home.

Worts doubled her tally just six minutes later, heading home Abbey Lemon’s cross. The Reds gave themselves a lifeline deep into first-half stoppage time through Hannah Blake who timed her run to perfection to latch onto Emily Hodgson’s through ball and fire home.

Princess Ibini guaranteed Sydney the win with just over ten minutes still to play. The visitors were awarded a spot-kick following a foul in the box, which the No.20 duly converted.

Newcastle Jets 2-3 Melbourne City

In a five-goal thriller, Melbourne City took all three points from Newcastle Jets. Daniela Galic got the goal-scoring action underway just eight minutes in with a right-footed strike from the edge of the area.

Six minutes later, Emily van Egmond found the equaliser to bring the tie back level. A second for the hosts came shortly before half-time as Lara Gooch sent her side in ahead at the break. Two late goals from the visitors were enough to hand City all three points as Holly McNamara bagged her brace.
