The favorites to win were without one of their brightest stars in Riqui Puig. He has been ruled out due to an ACL tear sustained against the Seattle Sounders FC. His absence, perhaps, motivated his teammates to win without him.

On Saturday, the 2024 Western Conference finalist bested the Eastern Conference by a score of 2-1. Goals from their stars Joseph Paintsil and Dejan Joveljic was all that it took, offensively.

In the 9th minute, the Ghana born striker found the back of the net for the fourth time this postseason. Four minutes later, not only did Dejan Joveljic's score give him a league high sixth in the playoffs it was enough to give the victory to the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Sean Nealis of the New York Red Bulls did make it interesting as he utilized spacing to put a header past LA Galaxy goalkeeper John McCarthy. After a scoreless second half, Head Coach Greg Vanney and his team were able to hoist up another MLS Cup title.

The mighty 4-3-3 formation worked again

Joveljic played up top as Paintsil and Gabriel Pec joined him in that line. Both scores came from two members of that line.

They were assisted by members of the second line of the formation at midfield. Gaston Brugman and Marky Delgado both recorded one each. Edwin Cerrillo was the other starter at midfield with Puig out and Marco Reus relished to the role of a sub. It was uncertain until game time whether he would play out not.

John Nelson, Maya Yoshida, Carlos Garces and Miki Yamane held it down in the defensive line. Those four stars helped keeper John McCarthy a 2-1 lead from the 28th minute of the game until the final whistle Saturday afternoon.

This wasn't your typical game either for the Galaxy. They were dominated by their opponent in terms of ball possession. The New York Red Bulls controlled possession for more than 58% of the game. The Eastern Conference representative also was awarded six corner kicks.

Eight fouls were committed by the Galaxy in addition to one yellow card (Delgado). The Red Bulls were assessed two yellow cards (

"This is an amazing day. I waited for this moment a long time," Brugman told MLS Season Pass after the final whistle. "I'm really happy for the fans, for Riqui, for the club, for us. It's an amazing day."- Gaston Brugman, LA Galaxy Midfielder

None of that mattered too much as the Los Angeles Galaxy are champions thanks to their many talented stars. The star that was named the Audi MLS Cup 2024 MVP is Gaston Brugman.

The fans amongst Carson, California can rejoice. The LA Galaxy entered today's game unbeated at Dignity Health Sports Park. They not only left it still undefeated (17-0-3), they took home some new hardware with them in the form of their sixth MLS Cup title.
