Balmoral Stadium before kick-off

The Scottish champions opened the scoring early on with a goal just three minutes in. Chaos from a Celtic corner saw Megan Sidey make a good save to deny the visitors, but after a scramble, Murphy Agnew flicked her header over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

It was almost a quickfire double as Caitlin Hayes rifled a strike from the edge of the area. A block denied the defender but the ball then fell to Saoirse Noonan. She tried her luck but it was a good save from the keeper to deny the striker.

And Celtic did double our lead in the 20th minute as Jenny Smith sent a dangerous cross into the box. Gallacher broke through the defensive line and got there to knock it over the line for a fantastic goal.

The Ghirls continued to try and get more goals on the scoresheet but a solid Aberdeen performance was keeping us at bay, and they would certainly have been happy only being down 2-0 at half-time.

But as the teams came out after the break, Smith quickly found a third for the visitors. She struck from a difficult angle and the wind helped out the wing-back, looping the ball over the goalkeeper for an absolute stunner. If you remember correctly, she scored a goal of the season contender last campaign at Balmoral, so maybe there’s something in the air at the little Balmoral Stadium…

Lisa Rodgers made her first senior appearance for Celtic today

Aberdeen managed to get a shot off, testing Lisa Rodgers for the first time in the afternoon. The goalkeeper, who made her first competitive start for Celtic in this game, got down well to save it and defend the clean sheet.

And with 65 minutes gone, Mathilde Carstens scored her first goal in the Hoops with a phenomenal strike from distance.

Mathilde Carstens scored her first goal for Celtic today

It was a questionable end to the game as Celtic were denied a goal with seven minutes to go. The ball was put in the back of the net by Carstens, but the referee ruled that Kit Loferski had somehow impeded the goalkeeper.

Aberdeen went down to 10 players after a foul on Hana Kerner, making it easy to see out the victory.

A decent away outing for the Ghirls, who were cheered on by a good number of Celtic supporters in Aberdeenshire, perhaps the result was a little short of goals with both theRangers and Hearts hitting higher figures today in a league that has a handful of top sides so much better than the bunch at the bottom of the table.
