Albion’s Second Tier Season Comparison – 19 games

Article image:Albion’s Second Tier Season Comparison – 19 games

Albion’s remarkable run of results goes on as they drew their tenth game our of the last eleven extending their unbeaten run to eleven games but also making a record of just one win in thirteen. While it is hardly an ideal situation, it is the Baggies’ longest unbeaten run since Slaven Bilić’s side went fourteen without defeat in 2019 and there has been only one other longer run of unbeaten league games in the 21st century which was when Roberto di Matteo concluded the 2009/10 season with twelve undefeated matches.

While Carlos Corberán’s team didn’t manage to secure a much-needed victory, it wasn’t for the want of trying against the side that started and ended the weekend at the top of the table. I felt it was a game that Albion probably deserved to win but two poor goals given away cost them in the end.

Two new league goalscorers were added to Albion’s list with Heggem and Fellows bringing the number of players to have scored in the Championship for the Baggies to seven.

Eleven draws from 19 games is a club record high, with Vic Buckingham’s 1957/58 team coming closest when they drew eleven of their first 21 games of the season. For those interested, the club record for draws in a season is 21, while the Football League record is 23.
