Ruben Amorim believes he can help big money signing Antony to turn around his Manchester United career.
The winger has made just four Premier League appearances this season, having joined the club two years ago for a fee of £86m.
He has struggled to live up to the price tag since his move, having managed just five goals and three assists in 58 Premier League appearances.
The last goal the 24-year-old scored in English football was against Barnsley in the 7-0 EFL Cup demolition in September, which was also the last time he completed a full 90 minutes.
But Amorim says he believes Antony has plenty to offer: “He needs more confidence. If you remember the Antony at Ajax, he lacks the confidence to go 1 vs 1. He’s working really hard and I will help him to be a better player.”
Amorim has had a mixed start to his United career, but said he can see clear signs of progress in his team. “I feel our team is faster, pressing more, the physicality is improving. The understanding of the game and you can see it by the controlling of the game. There is a lot of things but today it’s hard to focus on the good things.
“I think the worst part is we don’t have time to train. We are always travelling and have games and training, we don’t have all the team together. It’s really hard to recreate the game before they actually come to the game.”
