Manchester United are enduring one of their most difficult phases in the last decade.
Manager Ruben Amorim has opted for a bold 3-4-2-1 formation, a tactical shift that marks a clear departure from the approaches of his predecessors.
Amorim has shown the character Erik ten Hag lacked in the last 12 months of his stay at Man United.
However, he has made the same selection mistake twice in 11 games, starting Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in midfield against Ipswich Town and Newcastle United.
United earned a point against the Tractor Boys but lost 2-0 to the Magpies. He must not repeat the blunder of picking the duo together in 2025.
Casemiro and Eriksen lack the intensity to keep up with the Premier League’s demands.
The Brazilian has been sloppy in his ball distribution, frequently attempting long passes over the opposition’s defence.
The pass could prove to be useful, but he lacks the precision to play it successfully.
He often opts for sliding tackles rather than running with the player.
Eriksen still possesses creative vision but lacks the stamina to play in the heart of the midfield.
Amorim wants his midfielders to cover every blade of grass.
The pair do not have the ability to live up to those expectations.
He earns £150,000 a week while Casemiro pulls in £350,000, astronomical salaries for players who no longer bring much value. United are keen to sell them.
While Eriksen leaving the club this summer seems a certainty, the same cannot be said about Casemiro.
Saudi Pro League clubs are yet to formalise their interest in the veteran midfielder.
