Ahead of Real Madrid’s hosting of AC Milan, many expected the Spanish giants to hammer the out-of-form Italian side, but a Paulo Fonseca masterclass saw the game shape up differently.
With Milan in a difficult moment, many had written off any chance of the Rossoneri returning to Milano with anything from the game, let alone three points. Then, some Fonseca magic happened and his side beat the reigning champions 3-1.
Beating Real is no easy feat in itself, let alone at the Santiago Bernabeu, and considering how the Diavolo’s season had gone so far, its importance was substantial. Aside from this, it also showed that Fonseca was able to manage big games, with the Rossoneri dominating in the game.
A month and a half on from the defeat, Carlo Ancelotti sat down to speak about what the defeat did to his side, and how they bounced back, with Milan News relaying his words.
A time when the team hit rock bottom…
“After the defeat against AC Milan, but we talked about it and fixed things. We came back and put things right. The grade for the team? It is excellent in all aspects. We start 2025 with enthusiasm.”
Club support…
“When things don’t go well, you are responsible. Thanks to the support of the players and the club, they never showed me concern, but calm and support. My goal? I wish everyone a Merry Christmas, we all arrived alive, including you.”
Looking back to the result, if Milan qualify for the final eight of the Champions League league phase, the night in Madrid will be the big reason for that.
