Real Madrid’s managerial situation is more unclear than appears to the eye, and the plethora of facto affecting the decision makes it close to unpredictable.

Carlo Ancelotti, the current manager, wishes to stay at the club and see out the final year of his contract. The president Florentino Perez is not opposed to the same but not committed to the cause either.

Real Madrid’s unpredictable form this season is the root cause of the confusion over Ancelotti’s future and Perez thus refuses to take a decision now. SPORT bring clarity to the front and offer an update on how the decision will be taken.

In Barcelona’s hands?

As relayed by the outlet, Perez has conveyed to Ancelotti that a final decision over his future will be taken at the end of the season before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The meeting, held last Friday, clarified that Ancelotti does have control over his contract for next season and that his team will be responsible for guaranteeing the same.

Real Madrid’s progress across all remaining competitions will thus decide his fate, and only winning the UEFA Champions League will certainly save his position. However, Los Blancos’ fate across all competitions appears to be linked with Barcelona.

For starters, Real Madrid will lock horns with Barcelona later this month in the final of the Copa del Rey and then play against the Blaugrana once again next month in a league outing that may well settle the title race.

Further, the UEFA Champions League final may also see Real Madrid play Barcelona should they make it that far, and it is clear that all three competitions may well be decided in games against Hansi Flick’s side.

Should Ancelotti face the axe for failing to bring home silverware, Xabi Alonso is waiting to take over for Perez reportedly has a pre-agreement in place with the club legend. A lot, thus, rides in the coming month across competitions.
