After the defeat away to Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglu confirmed that winger Brennan Johnson is set to miss the next 3-4 weeks, whilst Dominic Solanke is also out for weeks.
Fans had grown frustrated at the Welshman's performances in recent weeks, with many stating that Spurs need better. Nevertheless, whatever your thoughts may be on the player, it is yet another body down, in this unprecedented crisis. As for Solanke, everyone knows how big a loss he will be. Ange had said that the striker needed help on more than one occasion. This injury was as inevitable as the sun coming down.
It also means there is pretty much no chance of any immediate rest for Dejan Kulusevski. Nor a chance of him playing in his best position. Not to critcise the Swede, whom is a brilliant player, and scored, plus put one on a plate for Heung-Min Son against Everton, but he is simply being worked into the ground. He was really poor in his duels in the game, and the fatigue no doubt plays a part in that.
The previous time Spurs played Everton, back in August, they started with a wing pairing of Johnson and Wilson Odobert. Neither player were available on Sunday. Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Destiny Udogie all started that game too.
Even Richarlison looked to have picked something when scoring his goal on Sunday, having collided with Jordan Pickford in the process. Let's hope that it was just a bit of a thump and that he's fine. Spurs are going to need him to be. The last time he contributed to a goal, he reinjured himself, so let's hope history has not repeated itself.
Particularly this week. The game against Hoffenheim on Thursday is must win. The ideal front three for that feels (R/L) Kulusevski, Richarlison, Moore. We saw an absolutely sublime cross from the latter for the Brazilian's goal. Meanwhile, Son looks pretty spent. No hate intended, but he, at the very least, is in need of some rest.
Just an absolutely ludicrous amount of injuries, and it feels never ending. Ange managed to get Ben Davies back at his disposal against Everton, but we are still waiting for Romero and van de Ven in central defence.
Most people thought Archie Gray was going to get a chance in midfield at Goodison Park, but he ended up playing in a back three, and then a back four. What a shame he didn't get a chance to play in his position in frot of England manager Thomas Tuchel. Poor fella.
