Another blockbuster Celtic return not ruled out

Celtic have been very active in recent years when it comes to bringing back familiar faces to the club. In the summer of 2023, Brendan Rodgers was appointed as the Hoops' manager for a second time, despite the circumstances surrounding his move to Leicester City in 2019. Earlier this year, Jota was brought back, merely 18 months after leaving. And this summer, Kieran Tierney will be returning to Glasgow, having already agreed a pre-contract agreement.

Another high-profile name that left Celtic recently is Kyogo. The desire to play at the next World Cup for Japan is believed to have been the driving factor behind the move. And it is true that he was often overlooked for national team selection despite scoring 85 goals during his time in Glasgow.

Kyogo's move to Rennes has not worked out as he would have imagined though. He has spent most of his time sitting on the bench and has even been left as an unused substitute on multiple occasions.

As a result, just months after joining Rennes, Kyogo is already being linked with a move away. Also, rumours suggest that the Ligue 1 club have started looking for possible replacements for the Japanese forward.

Could a return to Celtic be on the cards for Kyogo as well? It cannot be ruled out in the eyes of some. As reported by Glasgow World, Andy Walker said on Go Radio:

"I think there's always a chance. I mean, Celtic have brought Kieran Tierney back, they've brought Jota back, they have made a big profit on Jota, for example. Kieran Tierney will be welcomed with open arms, given his history at Celtic, given the quality that he still has. And the only thing you ask of Kieran Tierney is you hope he gets that bit of luck and he remains injury-free."

On the other hand, Mark Guidi said about the matter:

"I'd be surprised, but I wouldn't rule it out. Again, I think it would depend on the number and depends what kind of options Celtic feel that they have for the number nine jersey. So I don't think it will happen, but I don't think it's one you could completely rule out."

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Kyogo. But it is quite clear that it cannot continue like this.

Celtic did not end up signing a replacement for him in the winter. So, there might still be a spot available upfront when the summer window comes around. It remains to be seen if they go back to sign the Japanese forward.
