ANTIGUA, Guatemala – Antigua GFC drew nil-nil with LD Alajuelense in the first leg of their series in the semifinals of the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Tuesday at Estadio Pensativo in Antigua, Guatemala.

Santiago Gómez had early opportunities for the hosts with back-to-back attempts in the 15’, coming from a right-footed shot and a header inside the box.

Diego Campos had the clearest chance for Alajuelense in the first half with a right-footed volley in the 36’ that was denied by Antigua goalkeeper Luis Morán.

In the second half, José Espinoza came close to giving the hosts the lead in the 71’ with a powerful strike from the edge of the box, but his shot was met by a save from Alajuelense goalkeeper Leonel Moreira.

Robinson Flores had a dangerous opportunity for Antigua in the 90’ +3’, but his attempt from close range missed the target.

Both goalkeepers had strong performances on the night to secure clean sheets for their respective sides. Morán finished the match with three saves for Antigua, while Moreira registered three saves of his own for Alajuelense.

Antigua and Alajuelense will meet again next Wednesday in Cosa Rica for the second leg. The winner, on aggregate, will secure a spot in the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup final.
