Arne Slot says Liverpool believed they could win the Premier League title all season long.
The Reds clinched a record-equalling 20th top-flight crown on Sunday after they dismissed Tottenham Hotspur with a 5-1 win at Anfield.
The destination of the title was rarely in doubt after the Merseyside outfit streaked ahead of their rivals in the table, culminating in a 15-point lead with just four games remaining in the campaign.
There was, though, uncertainty over how Slot would fare as manager after succeeding Jurgen Klopp in the role last summer. Liverpool were not favourites to finish first, but the Dutchman has gotten the most out of a talented squad to become just the fifth head coach to win the Premier League in his debut season.
“It’s difficult to put into words,” Slot told Sky Sports after the final whistle. “You can feel how important it was for the fans to be here.
“We always come back, we always find a way to win. I don’t think we could have lost today.
“Our main focus was to win this game, if you are a part of it you still feel the pressure of getting the points over the line.
“For the whole season we were on top of the league but you also know how hard the Premier League is. The belief for us to win it was here throughout the season.”
Spurs were looking to spoil the day for the hosts when Dominic Solanke opened the scoring after 11 minutes, but the Merseyside outfit quickly responded with an equaliser from Luis Diaz.
From that point on it was all Liverpool. Alexis Mac Allister fired in a superb strike to put them ahead before Cody Gakpo doubled their lead by halftime.
Mo Salah got the goal he desperately wanted all game with a low, hard finish in the 63rd minute and he almost got a second moments later.
Trent Alexander-Arnold sent in a low cross for the Egyptian winger, but the ball was inadvertently turned in by Tottenham full-back Destiny Udogie.
