Liverpool and Arsenal Track Mohamed Amoura as Premier League Interest Intensifies

As the summer transfer window edges closer, two Premier League giants are keeping a close eye on one of North Africa’s rising stars. Mohamed Amine Amoura, the Algerian forward currently shining for Wolfsburg and his national team, has emerged as a key target for both Arsenal and Liverpool, according to L’Équipe.

The 24-year-old has made waves with standout performances for club and country, scoring a brace against Botswana and a hat-trick against Mozambique to push Algeria to the top of their World Cup qualifying group. He now boasts 13 goals in 32 caps — a record that echoes the early career of national icon Islam Slimani.

Amoura’s rapid rise draws attention

Amoura’s domestic form has mirrored his international exploits. After netting 21 goals in 45 matches at Union Saint-Gilloise, the Algerian forward joined Wolfsburg, initially on loan. That deal quickly turned permanent, with the Bundesliga side activating their €14 million option — plus €4 million in bonuses — following their successful survival campaign.

In Germany, Amoura has not only scored 10 Bundesliga goals but also provided 8 assists — trailing only Florian Wirtz, Michael Olise, and Omar Marmoush in the league’s creative charts. His goals against RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, and Stuttgart demonstrate he can deliver against elite opposition.

“Amoura? He’s like a player on batteries,” said Wolfsburg manager Ralph Hasenhüttl. That intensity has become a hallmark. Whether playing wide or centrally, his explosiveness and verticality cause problems, while his relentless pressing and willingness to challenge physically — despite standing at just 1.70m — mark him out as a unique, tireless competitor.

Premier League clubs consider next move

Wolfsburg now value Amoura between €35m and €40m. While no formal bids have been lodged, Liverpool and Arsenal have both made enquiries. Nottingham Forest are also credited with interest, but the Merseyside and north London giants are considered likelier destinations given their ambitions and European pedigree.

Sources close to the situation say Amoura’s versatility is especially appealing to Premier League scouts. His ability to play off the shoulder, stretch defences, or tuck into central areas aligns with both Arne Slot’s pressing system at Liverpool and Mikel Arteta’s preference for intelligent, high-intensity wide forwards.

Wolfsburg’s European push could be pivotal

Wolfsburg, currently 9th in the Bundesliga, could still qualify for Europe. If they do, it may strengthen their hand in retaining Amoura — or at least in commanding a fee towards the higher end of their valuation. His contract runs until June 2028, with an additional year as an option, putting the German side in a strong negotiating position.

Still, for Amoura, the question looms: has he outgrown Wolfsburg already? With Euro-ready clubs circling, a move this summer seems increasingly likely.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For fans of Arsenal and Liverpool, this report is as intriguing as it is divisive. On the one hand, Amoura’s stats — 10 goals and 8 assists in a mid-table Bundesliga side — scream upside. His pace, aggression, and ability to thrive against top-tier clubs make him a compelling option in a hyper-competitive Premier League landscape.

But there’s also the scepticism that comes with experience. At £35–40m, is Amoura really the next elite winger? Arsenal fans have seen Nicolas Pépé arrive for big money and struggle. Liverpool supporters, still adjusting to life after Klopp and the Slot transition, might ask whether another high-pressing, unproven player is what’s needed — or if more experience should be prioritised.

There’s no denying Amoura fits the mould both clubs often target. But questions remain about whether he’d start, adapt, or make an immediate impact. One thing is certain: if either club wants him, they’ll need to act decisively before the price rises — or worse, someone else pounces.
