Some good news for Arsenal ahead of their Champions League semi-final with Paris Saint-Germain

Mikel Arteta has said Arsenal will make a late decision on whether Bukayo Saka plays against Crystal Palace on Wednesday, but is confident the ankle injury the winger suffered against Ipswich “is not too serious”.

Saka was on the receiving end of what Arteta described as a “dangerous” challenge from Ipswich defender Leif Davis, who raked his studs down the back of his Achilles.

Davis was shown a red card for the foul as Arsenal beat 10-man Ipswich 4-0 at Portman Road on Sunday.

Saka was able to play on after treatment but he was substituted early in the second half, had an ice pack strapped to his right ankle on the bench and was then seen limping onto the team bus after the game.

Arteta cooled injury fears after the game and Saka was “sore” but that it was “nothing serious”, in a major relief to the Gunners ahead of their Champions League semi-final showdown with Paris Saint-Germain.

“He was a bit sore, but it’s nothing serious, so it’s good,” said Arteta on Sunday.

Arteta has now provided a fresh update on Saka ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League game against Crystal Palace at Emirates Stadium.

Speaking on Tuesday, Arteta said: ““We have to wait and see now how he reacts after the session, but it is nothing too serious.

“If we want to, I think he will have a good chance to play tomorrow.”
