Thomas Partey is suspended from the first leg of Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League semi-final encounter against Paris Saint-Germain. It will force a rethink from Mikel Arteta.
With Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz having been injured for several months, Arteta has reacted by playing midfielder Mikel Merino in attack. It is an experiment that has, by and large, been successful, and so Arteta has persisted. However, Partey picked up a yellow card during Arsenal’s win over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, meaning that he misses the first leg.
To compensate for that, Merino will drop back into his familiar midfield position, whilst Leandro Trossard is expected to come in and inherit the No.9 role. He will be flanked by Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.
