Corinthians and Palmeiras were competing in the final of the 2025 Campeonato Paulista on Thursday night, with Corinthians holding a 1-0 lead in the tie from the first leg.
Given the second leg was at home, the hosts would have been confident of the result they needed to win the trophy.
But with Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes watching on from the stands and supporting Corinthians, there was plenty of drama to come in spite of a lack of goals.

Things really kicked off in the 68th minute, as Vitor Roque won a penalty for Palmeiras. Corinthians defender Felix Torres should have been sent off for a second yellow card, but he wasn’t, and Palmeiras boss Abel Ferreira received a red card for his protests.
To make matters worse for Palmeiras, the penalty was saved. There was at least some justice a minute later, as Torres was finally sent off for another poor challenge.
The off-field drama continued, with a brawl breaking out that ultimately saw two substitutes red carded, one for either side. 16 minutes of injury time had to be added on, and 18 minutes were played.
At the end of all that, a 0-0 draw secured Corinthians a 1-0 aggregate win and the trophy. In the stands, Gabriel could be seen celebrating.

Gabriel has previously expressed his desire to play for Corinthians one day, as a lifelong fan of the club. For the time being, he remains a supporter, playing his football in north London.
Thursday night was certainly a good time to be a fan of the Brazilian club.
