Arsenal are set to step up their pursuit of Matheus Goncalves as the club look to beat rival competition from Europe in the race to sign the Flamengo teenager.
Arsenal have an extensive scouting network in South America and have targeted Goncalves as a potential addition, following the successful captures of Gabriel Martinelli and Marquinhos in recent transfer windows.
Goncalves has attracted significant interest from Europe and is viewed as one of the most exciting prospects in Brazil at present, with the 17-year-old a left-footed winger capable of operating across the front line.

According to The Sun, Arsenal will step up their pursuit of Goncalves as the Gunners look to see off competition from Manchester City, Ajax and Benfica.
Arsenal boast a strong contingent of Brazilians in the current squad, while the contacts of sporting director Edu Gaspar in his homeland can give the north Londoners an advantage in the race to sign the teenager.
Goncalves has made 11 senior appearances for Flamengo and has a release clause of £88m in his contract, though any deal would be for a fraction of that fee and it is reported he could be available for as little as £2.5m.
