Arsenal needed a stoppage-time goal to defeat Southampton in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup, watched by over 13,000 at St Mary’s Stadium.

Group A – Durham 1-1 Sheffield United (Durham won shoot-out 8-7) (Att: 624)

Group D – Southampton 1-2 Arsenal (Att: 13,438)

The Saints’ Molly Pike had fired the Championship side into a 55th-minute lead but the Gunners were quickly back on level terms, as Frida Maanum netted at the near post.

Maanum turned provider in the 92nd minute, her corner kick being headed home by Amanda Ilestedt, as Arsenal went level on points with group leaders Spurs.

Durham were pegged back late on by Sheffield United but won an the shoot-out in sudden death to go top of Group A.

Amy Andrews scored on the half-hour for the Wildcats, Jess Sigsworth equalised with nine minutes left, before Naoisha McAloon saved Juliet Adibowale-Arimoro’s spot-kick.
