Thanks to a performances for the ages, Arsenal have earned quite the advantage over Real Madrid in the first leg.
A 3-0 win at the Emirates means the reigning European champions must score at least four goals in order to go through to the next round.
While Real Madrid are no stranger when it comes to making stellar comebacks in the European stage, turning around this tie could be particularly difficult.
Given the way Arsenal performed in the first leg, coupled with Real Madrid’s own form, injuries and overall lack of morale, things could indeed way harder this time.
To that end, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was notably asked whether or not he believes Real Madrid can make a comeback in the second leg.

The Spaniard, though, had no desire to talk about Real Madrid and focus on all things Arsenal.
“We have to focus on what we can do, what we can control. When the time comes, we will prepare for the game. We know what awaits us. We have to win again, we have to take another step forward and be better than the first game,” he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
Arteta, though, will anticipate a packed Santiago Bernabeu ready to back Real Madrid heading into the second leg.
Hence, it won’t be surprising to see the Gunners adopt a more defensive approach in the second leg. The club will also rely on the lack of morale in the Real Madrid camp, which has been further dampened by speculations over Carlo Ancelotti’s future.
In order to boost the team, club president Florentino Perez recently visited the Valdebebas camp, which remains confident of turning things around in the second leg.
