First-half goals from Arnautovic and Asllani were enough for Inter to eliminate Udinese and progress to the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. Here are the facts you need to know following the victory over the Friulani:
Simone Inzaghi's men continue to show real fluidity in their play: across the Top 5 European leagues, Inter have had the most goalscorers (17) in all competitions this season. The Nerazzurri have scored two of their last three goals in the Coppa Italia from corners, with two of their previous 27 goals in the competition having arrived in this manner.
Olimpico goals aren't easily forgotten. In bagging against Udinese, Kristjan Asllani became part of the club of Nerazzurri players to have scored directly from a corner, joining Stankovic, Recoba, Eriksen and Calhanoglu. It was Asllani's first goal of the season in all competitions, and, in general, the first one he's scored from a set-piece.
Perfect movement and a lethal left-footed finish: Arnautovic opened the scoring against the Friulani with an excellent goal. In doing so, the Nerazzurri attacker returned to the scoresheet in the Coppa Italia 1221 days on from his one and only previous goal in the competition in 2021 (when he was at Bologna).
Josep Martinez made his debut against Udinese, experiencing his first competitive minutes. It was a positive evening for the Spanish goalkeeper, who produced an impeccable performance in the 2-0 victory and preserved his clean sheet by thwarting Touré late on with an excellent save. He's the first Spanish goalkeeper to represent Inter, although the Spaniard Francisco Farinos once had to go between the sticks as the Nerazzurri's emergency shot-stopper during Valencia vs. Inter in the 2001/02 UEFA Cup.
Yesterday was also an emotional evening for Mike Aidoo, who made his official debut for Inter after coming on in the 88th minute. It was a special moment for the young defender from Inter's Primavera side. Born on 30 May 2005, Aidoo is a centre-back who can also play at full-back, and, against Udinese, he crowned his development journey after previously being named in the first-team matchday squad and on the bench on several occasions. Late on in the match, Simone Inzaghi gave him the chance to make his first appearance at San Siro, sending him on for Darmian. Those first six minutes out on the pitch were no doubt exciting for Aidoo, who got to experience the joy of contributing to an excellent win that saw Inter progress to the quarter-finals.
Against the Bianconeri, the Dutch wing-back reached a prestigious milestone: 150 appearances in an Inter shirt. Energy, strength and tireless running: these are just some of the qualities Denzel Dumfries has displayed during his time with the Nerazzurri. Since arriving in the summer of 2021, Denzel has made big strides forward at Inter and is undoubtedly an important player for Simone Inzaghi.
