Aston Villa Man Ready To Move To Liverpool In The Summer: Why Will It Be A Good Move For The Reds?

Liverpool have won the Premier League this season. However, a club of the quality of the Reds should be gunning for all trophies. The Merseyside club have been knocked out of the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League and also lost the final of the Carabao Cup against Newcastle United. They should be looking to make some significant signings to strengthen their squad to compete for trophies in all competitions.

Liverpool have struggled with the form of Darwin Nunez. The high-profile Uruguayan has lacked confidence and has not been prolific in front of the goal. Hence, Arne Slot needs a world-class number nine to lead their line and score goals consistently. The club have been linked with multiple strikers in the transfer market, and one of them has been Aston Villa‘s Ollie Watkins.

Ollie Watkins Wants To Move To Liverpool

According to Mick Brown via Football Insider, Watkins is interested in making the move to Anfield in the upcoming transfer window. Brown also talked about how the Aston Villa man is different from all the other strikers, as he stretches the defence, drifts wide, and runs in behind. This is exactly what Liverpool want from their striker, and he will be the perfect fit for Slot. Liverpool are the favourites to win the Premier League and are one of the most probable clubs to fight for all trophies; Watkins will relish the opportunity to play for them.

Liverpool could get the deal done in the range of £50-60 million. Watkins has scored 15 goals in 34 matches so far in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. Nine of the 15 goals were scored at home, while he scored six goals at away games. Overall, Watkins’s goals scored per 90 minutes is 0.59. Moreover, the forward has amassed a total G/A (goals + assists) of 22 for this season. His goal involvement equates to 0.87 per 90 minutes, and his non-penalty xG per 90 minutes is 0.53.

Why is it a fantastic move for the Reds?

Ollie Watkins is an explosive striker who combines sensational pace, smart movement, and a sharp eye for goal. His relentless work rate, strong aerial presence, and ability to press defenders high up the pitch make him a nightmare to play against. Watkins links up play effortlessly, finds space behind backlines, and consistently delivers both goals and assists, thriving especially in fast-paced, attacking systems.

Bringing Watkins to Liverpool would give their front line a real boost. His speed, finishing, and tireless pressing are a perfect fit for Arne Slot’s high-energy style. Watkins would complement Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah well, offering both depth and flexibility up front. The Aston Villa man’s natural goal-scoring instincts could also help take some of the burden off Salah. However, adjusting to the intense pressure at Anfield and justifying a likely hefty transfer fee would be challenges he would need to overcome.
