Barcelona’s failure to register Dani Olmo before the stipulated deadline leaves the club administration hanging their heads in shame.

Joan Lapota and Co. arrived at the helm promising to improve the financial situation, but despite triggering lever after lever, they continue to row Barcelona into the darkness and the recent debacle is the lowest point.

The board is confident that Olmo will be registered through ‘Force Majeure’, but that interpretation is left to La Liga.

Olmo, meanwhile, is free to leave as a free agent now and even command his salary for the next five years, handing the Catalans a major loss.

Atletico Madrid ruled out

Amidst the confusion, there is calm in the Catalan dressing room and all signs point to Olmo being fixated on staying at the club.

A lot can change, however, should La Liga refuse Barcelona’s request tomorrow and the player’s agent is thus considering the plethora of offers on their table.

Of the many clubs interested in the midfielder, Atletico Madrid were said to have been one as Diego Simeone admired the player and what he brings to the table. That option, however, has been ruled out as relayed by AS.

Cholo already has four attackers in his squad whom he counts on regularly and four others who appear on occasion and there is simply no room for a new arrival.

Moreover, Los Rojiblancos spent lavishly in the summer and are thus not looking to make any signings in January as it stands.

The current La Liga leaders are not an option for Olmo as it stands, but there continues to be tremendous interest in the player’s signing from other top leagues in Europe.

It remains to be seen how this saga unfolds.
