Atlético Madrid have confirmed that Šime Vrsaljko must undergo surgery on a cheekbone injury sustained during Tuesday’s Champions League victory over Porto.

A 3-1 win in what was a bad tempered affair was enough for Atleti to seal their passage to the knockout phase, but Vrsaljko had to undergo a scan on Wednesday which revealed a fracture of the zygomatic arch.

The Croatian defender will now undergo surgery, and his recovery time is not yet known.
