In this high-octane La Liga showdown at the Estadio Metropolitano, Atlético Madrid showcased their resilience and attacking prowess. They secured a 4–2 victory over Real Valladolid to keep their title hopes alive. The win propels Diego Simeone’s men to 63 points, narrowing the gap to just three behind second-placed Real Madrid and seven off league leaders Barcelona, with seven matches remaining in the season.

Valladolid, despite languishing at the bottom of the table, delivered the game’s first surprise. In the 12th minute, a VAR-reviewed handball by Clément Lenglet resulted in a penalty. Mamadou Sylla calmly converted it to put the visitors ahead 1–0. The early lead shocked the Metropolitano faithful. However, the home side responded with typical grit and determination as they pursued victory.

Just eight minutes later, Atlético’s star striker Julián Álvarez won a penalty after a driving run into the box. He stepped up and converted it with ease, notching his 25th La Liga goal of the season and restoring parity. The momentum shifted firmly in Atlético’s favor when Giuliano Simeone—son of Diego Simeone—scored just four minutes later. A precise through ball from Rodrigo De Paul found Simeone Jr. He made no mistake, drilling a low shot past Sergio Asenjo for their 2–1 victory lead.

Valladolid, however, refused to bow out. In the 49th minute, Javi Sánchez fired in a long-range free kick that deflected off Mario Hermoso and flew past a helpless Jan Oblak, bringing the score to 2–2. But Atlético responded in style. In the 64th minute, Álvarez drew another foul inside the box after a rash challenge by Jawad El Yamiq. The Argentine striker converted again, sending Asenjo the wrong way, registering his 26th goal across all competitions this season. This reclaimed the lead at 3–2 and pushed for victory.

Substitute Alexander Sørloth secured their final goal. A quick counterattack was expertly finished by the Norwegian forward after a slick assist from Ángel Correa. This rounded off an electric performance from the home side. Statistically, Atlético dominated possession with 62%. They registered 17 shots (8 on target), and completed over 550 passes. Valladolid managed 9 shots, with 4 on target, and showed commendable spirit despite their defensive struggles. However, they still failed to achieve victory.

Álvarez earned man-of-the-match honors for his brace and relentless attacking presence. Giuliano Simeone and De Paul were also standout performers, providing creativity and drive. Meanwhile, Koke anchored the midfield with composure and experience. Their contributions were key to their victory.

With this triumph, Atlético Madrid stay firmly in the title race. In contrast, Real Valladolid’s relegation fears deepen as they remain 14 points from safety. The pressure mounts for both teams in the final part of their campaigns as they seek positive results in every remaining game.
