Having put his injury troubles behind him, Barcelona sensation Pedri has once again shown this season why he is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the game currently.

The 22-year-old has become one of the most vital cogs in Hansi Flick’s team, who could win their first trophy of the season later tonight when they face Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final.

Given Pedri’s importance in the side, Barcelona are eager to tie him down to a new contract especially given that his current one expires in 2026.

Pedri’s contract renewal is guaranteed

Negotiations have been going on for a while now and journalist Fabrizio Romano now reports that Pedri’s contract renewal with Barcelona will ‘surely’ happen in the coming months.

This update comes after the Spanish midfielder himself confirmed earlier this week that talks between his agents and the club were progressing in a very positive manner.

“What my agents and the club tell me is that everything is going well. It’s not a good time to talk about renewals the day before a final. I’m more focused on the final than on my renewal,” he said on the eve of the Super Cup final.

Pedri has featured in each of Barcelona’s 27 matches across all competitions this season, even chipping in with four goals and three assists in the process. What he brings to the table though goes beyond those numbers.

Recurring injuries had been a problem for the young Spanish international in the past but that seems to be a thing of the past as the midfielder is looking his best physically this season while also playing some of his best football.

Pedri is happy at Barça and a long-term renewal, possibly until 2030 as reported before, is very much on its way.
