Joshua Kimmich has been a player of interest for FC Barcelona for years now. The Blaugrana were intent on signing him not long ago when Xavi Hernandez was in charge of the club and their interest has been maintained with Hansi Flick at the helm of affairs now.
Kimmich’s contract at Bayern Munich expires in the summer, meaning he would be available for free. As such, Barça have been closely following his situation at the Allianz Arena, along with many other top clubs.
However, now, according to BILD in Germany (h/t SPORT), Barcelona have withdrawn their name from the race to sign Joshua Kimmich in the summer.
The German midfielder recently met with Bayern Munich’s directors to inform them that he has yet to make a final decision. While the player is considering offers from outside the Bundesliga, Barcelona are no longer in contention for his signature.
The factors behind Barça’s decision include Kimmich’s wage expectations, which are beyond Barça’s current capabilities as well as the club’s focus on nurturing homegrown talent – which has seen the likes of Marc Bernal and Marc Casado break through this season.

Another reason behind Barcelona opting against a move for Kimmich is the moments of friction he has had in his career due to his character, which may not align with Barça’s vision.
While the door is not entirely closed, there have been no recent moves to make his signing a reality in the summer.
As far as Kimmich is concerned, Kimmich prioritises staying with Bayern Munich. During his recent meeting with the club’s management, he requested assurances of a competitive project aimed at winning the Champions League as well as top signings for the future.
However, Bayern officials are growing frustrated with the delays in Kimmich’s decision-making, which are slowing the club’s transfer planning.
The 29-year-old is also attracting interest from clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester City, and PSG as well.
But for now, Barcelona appear to have turned the page as far as their pursuit of Kimmich is concerned.
